A long time ago, my ex-mother in law was in a medical office or something like that and she had to give information to someone about somewhere in Itaquera (a district in East side of São Paulo), and she said that place searched "was near NIFE", which is a company of industrial batteries located in the region.
Só que uma senhora intrometida que estava perto entrou na conversa e quis corrigir a pronúncia dela:
But a nosy lady who was near joined the conversation and wanted to correct the pronunciation of her:
- Senhora, não se pronuncia "nife", e sim "naife", porque o "i" pronuncia "ai" em inglês, a minha filha está estudando o idioma e já me disse isso.
- Madam, the correct pronunciation is "knife" not "neefe" because in English the letter "i" (from "igreja", church in Portugues) is pronounced like "ai" (like "paisagem", landscape in Portugues), my daughter is studying that idiom and has told me so.
Então minha ex-sogra replicou:

- Senhora, se pronuncia "nife" sim, pois o nome dessa fábrica significa "Níquel-Ferro", e minha filha trabalha lá!
- Lady, we pronounce "neefe" yes, because the name of this factory means "Níquel-Ferro" (nickel-iron), and my daughter works there!
A outra dona ficou quietinha depois dessa, hahaha!.
